Moun Pou Moun Haiti
Moun Pou Moun Haiti
“People for People and Person by Person...”
Started in 2005, Moun Pou Moun is literally “People for People” and “Person by Person;” a charitable outreach initiative in southern Haiti. Friends of Moun Pou Moun Haiti sponsor students in school, help start microcredit businesses, help purchase farm animals or land for self-sustenance, build houses, and foster relationships with people struggling for survival in Haiti.
Haiti is by far the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. With a long history of political unrest and frequent hurricane and deforestation devastation, loss of lives, homes, food and work is an all-too-common reality for Haitians. With such regular loss of income and food sources, children are frequently neglecting their schoolwork to help rebuild homes or work to find the next meal for their families.
Moun Pou Moun Haiti
Pronounced “Moon Pooh Moon,” this Haitian Kreyol phrase stems from a Haitian poem by JanJan Dezire:
Chak moun Each person
Viv pou tout moun Living for all people
Tout moun All people
Viv pou chak moun Living for each person
