Christen Parker (left) co-founder & Executive Director
Here is the upcoming travel plan:
I will be leaving Sacramento, CA on February 27th, arriving in Haiti February 28th. MPMHaiti's Director of Projects, Samuel Thidor, will meet me at the airport in Port-au-Prince and we will spend a few days there, meeting with representatives from the UC Haiti Initiative and other organizations who engage in similar partnership work in Haiti.
Annie Laws will join us March 3rd and we will drive to Les Cayes (Okay) to spend an intensive week working with our Public Health Education Team (Pwomati Bon Santè) and assess requests for latrines and expanded services. Our staff has had incredible results teaching the SODIS method of water purification. None of our families in the program have had cholera or even "typical" bowel issues related to unclean water.
I will work with our Microcredit Team, meeting with women's groups and staff.
For our Educational scholarship program, I will meet with school directors, students, and parents. I have some certificates of acheivement to award our improving students and their families. I will also give students updates about their sponsors and give them a chance to write to them if they wish.
Our staff will be engaged in several visioning retreats and planning meetings - reflecting our past work, evaluating our present efforts, and strategizing for future growth.
Our Board of Directors has also instructed me to at least take half a day to rest on the beach, which I will make sure to do with our beautiful twin goddaughters.
Stay tuned... and let me know if you have any questions or comments. I will be packing!
